Mac (version sonoma 14.1.1) gave me wrong date and time when setting it to automatic

Of course after trying everything suggested on the internet, nothing worked. Until I've tried this (credits to apple support team):

  1. open terminal
  2. type in this command: sudo rm /var/db/timed/com.apple.timed.plist
  3. press return. you'll get that you have to enter your password.
  4. enter password (note that the password will not be showing on the screen while typing).
  5. then try going back to settings and set the date and time to automatic. it should work.

note that if it didn't work and you got a message on the terminal "command not found" or some kind of error then boot your mac in safe mode and then repeat all of the above steps in safe mode. then restart your mac to normal mode.

hope it works. it worked on my mac.

if all of the above didn't work, try contacting apple support.

Same with me, the battery drains while asleep, the time is messed up. Going through the procedure above fixes the date/time problem temporarily, but after a few days the same thing happens. Would be interesting to know, whether battery drains because of bad time settings or time is messed up because of battery drain ...
