Wrong audio language

I rented a movie but it is playing in Russian. I cannot change this while playing or in my Apple TV settings: what’s up?

All my settings and personal information seem to be set correctly. Country is Latvia (Russian is not our language), delivery and other personal information is set to Latvia, preferred languages are set to English and Latvian.

I will be guessing that the issue is not with my device but with what I’m watching - made the post because The Hunger Games (all movies) only show up in Russian and the language cannot be changed anywhere, it doesn’t even give the option to do so. Weird that that is the only language option for it.

Oh well, I suppose I have to pay closer attention to what movies I am renting next time.

What is the country or region as set for your Apple ID account? That determines from which Store region the content is streaming, then thereby indirectly determines what language support is available to you (as set by the supplying studio for that region).

The TV app on Mac defaults to the language of the macOS system, or the exception language as set for an app, if available in the stream. If multiple audio languages are available, then users may make a choice between the offered languages.

If you mention the movie title, then we may check what is currently available for that in your region.

If you mention the version macOS, then we may describe options for the iTunes application, if applicable.

From what I can see, being outside your country, it seems that Russian dubbed audio is what’s available for those titles.

  • If there were more options, there should be in-app controls to change the audio track, while the movie is playing, from audio track icon (with the sound wave symbol):

If the only presented audio language makes the content ‘unwatchable’ for you, then you can try to get a refund: Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple - Apple Support

To see which audio languages are available for any given movie title, scroll down on that movie’s Details page, under the Languages heading, where the included audio languages and subtitle languages are specified.
