Popup on Iphone 15 forced app store open, could it be a virus?

I was browsing a manga site (mangakakalot) on my Iphone 15. I accidently clicked an image which caused a popup to open in safari. While I would normally just close the popup and forget about it, this popup managed to force my phone to launch the app store. I managed to close the app store and popup window before I could see what it wanted to download. What I want to know is if this could indicate the popup managed to spread malware into safari or other applications?

I am aware that Iphones are "immune" to viruses due iOS' closed security structure, but I would expect then that the popup should not have been able to interact with the app store in the first place.

I have taken the steps of clearing my browser history and data, and have been keeping an eye on my data usage and have not seen any abnormal increases in data usage. Are there any other ways to tell if my phone is infected with a virus?
