Apple Watch Ultra 2 cannot use internet without iPhone nearby

My Apple Watch Ultra 2 is “connected” to WiFi and cellular, but unless the iPhone is nearby, it fails to send data over the internet. According to the Watch, it is connected to WiFi and Cellular. I’ve already tried turning Airplane mode on and off, and turning cellular and WiFi on and off on the watch. I’m also on the latest version of the OS.


When the iPhone is not near every action that requires connectivity fails on the watch. Examples include: checking for software updates, playing a song from Apple Music, starting a Walkie talkie conversation. But when the iPhone is nearby, everything just works.


I’m certain that I’m on the latest OS version. I know my WiFi and my cellular plan work. Everything else on my WiFi works great and I’m using the same cellphone plan that worked great with my previous Apple Watch (the first Ultra series).


this never happened on the Apple Watch Ultra 1. I am frustrated and confused.


Is there anything I’m doing wrong? What could I do to “force” my Apple Watch Ultra 2 to use the internet?

This its strange. Without my iPhone connected, I can check for updates on my Apple Watch Ultra 2, send and receive iCloud Mail. But I can not receive or send mail, using the 3rd party mail account.


According to the mails saved on the Apple Watch, the last time I could ( and did) use my 3rd party mail account on the Apple Watch Ultra 2, was before watchOS 10.4, at the beginning of March.


I did not notice that until I saw your post, since I almost all the time check my mail using my iPhone or MacBook Pro.


I can send mail, using the iCloud account and the LTE data network, but sending email from my 3rd party account also does not work via cellular data.
