A pop-up that says “Your iPhone Has Been Hacked"

A pop-up that says "Your iPhone Has Been Hacked" is a scam

The pop-up claims that your device has been compromised and that hackers are monitoring your activities.

The pop-up instructs you to call a number so Apple can supposedly remove the hackers. However, the number actually connects you to scammers who can install malware.

I have a popup message on Facebook that says I’m being tracked by a hacker and wants me to click a link. I did not click the link, but I cannot get rid of the pop up. I rebooted my IPhone and it came back when I went on Facebook. What do I do?

Federal Trade Commission – How To Spot, Avoid, and Report Tech Support Scams

"Tech support scammers may try to trick you with a pop-up window that appears on your computer screen. It might look like an error message from your operating system or antivirus software, and it might use logos from trusted companies or websites. The message in the window warns you about a security issue on your computer and tells you to call a phone number to get help.

If you get this kind of pop-up window on your computer, don’t call the number. Real security warnings and messages will never ask you to call a phone number."

  • If using am the Facebook App, then uninstall it, and then restart your iPhone. Next, install it from the App Store, signing in on it.

Sounds like another lie..

The scammers want you to believe that they are more powerful than they really are. Most don't have any way to track you – unless, say, you've posted your home address online. Then they know where your home is, but that still doesn't mean they can watch you through your phone.

Many are "script kiddies" who work in large scammer call centers, blindly following scripts provided by handlers. They're pretty good at scamming people on the fly, as long as they can keep their victims afraid and off guard – but they couldn't hack their way out of a paper bag, and would likely fail Programming 101.
