Cell & Text Problem

I have a document with columns. There is a black background behind the text word "Flight" that I can't get rid of or change its properties. I don't know how I made it, it may have been started in Word and updated in Pages.

The cursor will not go to the beginning of the black background, only to the beginning of the text.

It is not a Highlight either, I tried that.

Also, if I put the cursor at the beginning of "Flight" and hit the Enter button, it moves the word down a line and brings the background with it. If I put the cursor at the beginning of "Flight" and hit Delete nothing happens.

Any idea what this is and how to manage it?

I actually figured it out: In the Format Tab under the Text tab I changed the style to Default and the black box went away. I could then add a Highlight to the Flight word.

Thanks for responding.
