Does wifi password sharing require icloud keychain?

I have a Mac for work. It never requests wifi passwords from my phone or family when I use it in new locations, even though it's signed in to my iCloud.

I believe this is because my work management software has disabled iCloud keychain. However, I can't find any clear explanation of what wifi password requesting requires. Seems like (as it's not a sync, it's a request from a device in my contact list) that it shouldn't require keychain?

Any help or documentation links welcome. Clearly love the feature and want it to work!

Make sure your Apple ID email address is added to the Mac's contact list , and the Mac's Apple ID email address is added to your other device's contact list.

If both devices are signed in to your Apple ID, this should not be necessary.

Also, make sure your other device is turned on and unlocked and already connected to the Wi-Fi network you wish to share the password for.

There's nothing that states Keychain is required though.

Thanks for this!

I agree with you, read that linked doc. I do have the emails in contacts and am signed in on both devices. The interesting thing is that the Mac didn't request the wifi password from any of the 4 people in the house who were all

a. on the wifi

b. using up to date iPhones

c. in my contacts on the Mac

This leads me to think it's not about my ID, as my iPhone did request the wifi password from those 4, and connect, but about some setting on the Mac specifically restricted by Jamf. And the only thing I could figure out is that iCloud Keychain is disabled. Other things (iCloud drive, Safari sync, etc) are also disabled, but those seem even less likely to be the issue.
