I just used my Apple Pay this afternoon. When I arrived home I was prompted to update to iOS 17.1.1. After the update, now Apple Pay does not work and I can not add payment cards back. I contacted support and they said there is a problem with the Apple Pay sensors that will cost $587 to fix.
Apple broke my phone with the 17.1.1 update (it worked just fine an hour ago) and now wants me to pay them to fix it.

Try reinstalling iOS 17 using your computer as it explains here. It worked for me. Amazingly, multiple support techs that I talked to, did not recommend this or try to help. They just wanted to charge me $587 for a repair I didn't need. Still annoyed about it.

Further, today I found the instructions for reinstalling the iOS using iTunes and now my Apple pay is working just fine. This was obviously a known issue and Apple had posted a fix on the support website. Customer support is trying to maximize profit.
I have had the exact same problem. Apple Pay worked fine until I updated. Now cards do not work
