that's it. got an email ticket. has graphic square with black symbols and a bar code but when I send to print all of that is omitted and I only get 2-3 lines of text (actually not all text in the email either).

Double click the attachment to open it in the Preview app and then try printing from Preview.
When posting please provide details, such as version of Mac OS, the printer type, how it is connected to the Mac (wi-fi, USB, AirPrint, etc...) if you are using any third part apps (HP, Canon, Epson etc...) you are using for printing, the exact steps you have taken, what if any errors come up, etc.
