Help restoring backup to new iPhone 15

I have an iPhone 15 replacing an iPhone 13. I backed up the Iphone 13 and have an iCloud backup (shows under backups on my new phone) and a backup on my PC. The 15 is up and running with not much info on it yet. However, I need my messages and contacts from my old phone. If I read this correctly, I need to delete what is on my 15 and essentially start over to restore my iCloud backup. By doing that, my reading states that I will get a message to transfer the iCloud backup to my new iPhone 15. I have never done this before, and it makes me nervous to delete and erase my iPhone 15, although there is very little on it. I don't want to be without a phone. The iPhone 13 is ready to send to Apple.

Am I on the right track?

Thanks

I seem to be posting in the wrong spot, as it says Windows 10 at the bottom, and I have made a couple of previous posts but cannot seem to find them once I post.

If you've been doing this How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

then yes you would wipe your iphone 15 and restore from your backup Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

You should've been given that option when you first set up your 15 either as new or backup, did you not see that?

Yes, I was following the instructions, and at some point, the phone asked for (I believe) the E-mail account assigned to the phone. I entered what I thought it was twice and then was asked for the Recovery Code, which I did not have. Apparently, T-Mobile generated the recovery code a couple of years ago when I bought the iPhone 13 which I was now trading in but did not give it to me for whatever reason. The trouble started when I went to the same T-Mobile store for assistance in completing the transfer from my 13 to the 15. They assigned me a new Apple E-mail account and got the phone number working but that was all they were able to do. However, I was able to find my original Apple ID E-mail. I signed out of the new Apple Email account and signed in with my correct account. I am now at a point where I am satisfied with the new phone. All I need to do is find out how to get my contacts back. I got my messages that were in the iCloud backup. So, at this point, all I am missing is contacts and Apps, which I was told had to be reinstalled any way, which is no big deal. I get to clean up my desktop and reinstall any Apps when I need them. So, if I can get my contacts back, I will be the "Happy Camper."

Are the contacts stored in the iCloud backup? If so, I can use a USB cable to move them from my desktop computer, on which I also have the backup stored.

Thanks for replying.

I guess I am Up a creek without a paddle! I got phone Fone software and there are no contacts stored in the backup. The Contacts portion of the backups is grayed out. I still have the old phone, but I don't believe there is anything left on it. At this point, I don't believe starting from scratch would help me. Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks

Nope, I knew I've read this post before, seems you created 3 thread on the same topic.
