iMac shutting down in start-up loading.

I have an iMac running macOS 10.13.6 (a much older model).

Every time I try open it it just closes after 80% loaded (estimated load time). I've tried to restart it while it was loading but it just took even longer to shut down. It has been doing this for about 2 years and I haven't been able to get it to a place where they may be able to fix it. It may be something to do with the SSD as before it broke I loaded up quite a heavy file. I've come here for advice because I don't want to spend a lot of money for something I could just fix with a key bind or something else.

Have you tried a Safe Boot?

Start with this...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes or more.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

You may need to get anexternal drive to Install to.
