I have attached my Apple USB SuperDrive to the USB-A port on my MacBook Pro but I am getting no icon on my desktop to allow me to access the SuperDrive.

I can hear the disc drive running but when it is plugged in to my MacBook Pro I am not able to find an icon on my desk top or in my finder that allows me to operate my USB SuperDrive. I now have a disc in the device which I can't eject.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.7

Have you inserted a disk? I have Macs with internal optical drives and ones using external optical drives, all working; none show anything on the desktop until I insert a CD or DVD.

1) If you inserted a known-good disk in the drive and it does not show up on the desktop, that is a whole new issue. First, is the drive connected directly, or through a hub or dock? Hubs and docks are not SuperDrive-friendly.

2) Have "FInder" showing next to the Apple menu at the left end of your menubar. Open Finder Preferences to see if other drive types are turned on as visible. They are not by default:

3) Excuse me for asking this next question but it is the most common cause of Superdrive problems we handle here, so I must ask for completeness. Here goes: Is the SuperDrive silver-side up?
