Can't text Android phones after iOS 17.1.1 Update

OK my problem was solved by Verizon. Turns out the update through the provisioning out of sink from the phone provider. All they had to do was connect me with level two support, they synchronized my provisioning, and Presto it was fixed.

I fixed the issue by resetting my phone. Settings-general-transfer/reset-reset- reset all settings. The problem is fixed and my backup was only a precaution it was not necessary to wipe my phone clean.

I did a hard reset and it started working for me. Fingers crossed this helps anyone else. At least for my 13 pro max, press volume up, volume down and hold the lock button until you see the apple symbol(the phone will go to the turn off option, then the screen will go fully black and the logo will pop up, hold the lock button thru all of this until the log pops up)

Just tried this successfully: settings-->general-->transfer/restart iPhone -->reset-->reset all settings.

Retained apps etc.; was able to send group text to android and iPhone (unknown iOS but probably not 17.1.1).

I found out you cannot send pdfs or word docs to Android users from iPhone. It's not supported. You can send photos or screenshots. You would have to upload the file to dropbox and send the link. I found this out after hours and hours and finally called apple and then had to talk to At&t. The function is not supported. According to Apple they are working on a fix for it.

No idea. But when I described the problem to the tech and stated I read about the solution here to “redo provisioning” she said that was very helpful and knew exactly what to do. I had to call from another phone and once my iPhone 13 was powered off, she did the provisioning. After it turned back on, SMS worked immediately.

got mine working with Verizon. You can try this first and see if it works.

Reset network Settings.

/Settings/general/Transfer or reset/reset/reset network settings

if not then call your provider as others have stated and have them reprovision your phone.

I resolved this issue via ATT. They rebooted my line for android texts. Then I tried reset network and then restart the iphone. This process didn't work for the first time. When I tried several hours later: reset network > restart, I can send to android users.

Same here! Verizon had to turn off iMessage, SMS and turn off my phone. They returned my call on my husbands phone, then asked to turn my phone back on, reset all settings, then the group texts to android was working. It’s something in the backend that wasn’t aligned. Nothing about the iOS update but rather Verizon not having that provision synced up.

Verizon had to redo the "provisioning" on my iPhone 13 and enable messaging. It then worked...again. Was fine prior to the IOS 17.1.1 update.

I am using iOS 17.4.1 and called my carrier to update the "provisions". It worked. I hope this helps with others.

I had the same i instant with my new iPhone 15 Pro Max was not able to receive messages or text from android phones and then I wasn’t able to even get a hold of Consumer Cellular not even apple with my phone. I researched all the manual on iPhone, Apple, promax and SMS and you have to make sure that the phone is set on just one line and that line is the Cellular service line. Otherwise you won’t be able to do any of that and you have to turn the other one off if you have both on.

After the update, and all the tricks I've noticed that my WiFi calling was disabled. I reenabled it, and VOILA! (I do recall me doing this last time and it worked too)

Reset network settings fixed it for me.
