Ping my iPhone with the updated Apple Watch OS

Just installed Apple Watch new OS 10.1.1 on my series 4 Apple Watch. I cannot find the control to ping my iPhone to locate it. Does anyone know how to get to that easy command that used to be available by swiping down.? I use this more than any other feature

Access to the Control Center, which contains "Ping" Mode can be accessed by using the Watch "Side Button." According to Use the buttons and screen on your Apple Watch:

Press the side button

  • Press to show or hide Control Center.
  • Press and hold to use Emergency SOS.
  • Double-click to use Apple Pay.
  • Press and hold to turn your watch on or off.

If you have Apple Watch Ultra or later, you can customize the Action button to access your favorite features quickly.

If you haven't updated watchOS, learn how to use the side button.

The other way of finding your phone and pinging it was better by swiping up. This way is not as user-friendly, and can cause problems with emergency service.

The flat oval side button already had 3 functions. It is just the one function was replaced with Control Center

  • Quick press and release (was favorites, not Control Center)
  • Double press and release (Apple Wallet)
  • Press and Hold for 5-6 seconds (Emergency Services)

So making Quick Press and Release Control Center does not change how users access emergency services, and will not interfere

But please send your feedback to Apple, using the link Idris has provided.

I also do not see the control center or any way to ping my phone when I press the button indicated. I see recently used apps. I have a series 3. I use the ping feature several times a day and it’s the main reason I have the watch.

Going through the “Find devices” route doesn’t always bring up my phone, and it’s super inconvenient to use. Need help with this!

The way Apple keeps saying this is the solution is insulting. It isn’t.

I am not Apple. I am just an Apple Watch user like you.

Many new forum users, reply based on the post title and do not read any of the previous posted solutions.

Rather than whine at them for not reading all the previous answers, I accept it, and post the answer again.

They get their “First” email from this thread, and it has the solution they were looking for.

I cannot prevent future new forum users from not reading all the previous answers, but you can un-follow this thread and stop seeing my repeated attempts at helping frustrated users.

Idris,

Borrow away. My first picture, which was of a Series 3, I borrowed from Dah•veed, so feel free to borrow my answers anytime.

The goal is to help the users posting, not to hog credit for myself.

PS. If I cannot give myself an up-vote, I can give you one for using my content 😁

Double PS - In other posts, do not stress about users not reading the thread. History has shown, they almost never read the previous replies, and since they are often first time Discussion users, it is going to be next to impossible to teach them before they make their first post. Just add your repeat solution after their post, and they will get an email with the solution, which will make them happy, and satisfy another user.

I don't stress about it. I just hope that at least some of them will consider doing so in the future.

Keep up the fantastic work!

Not going to lie. I absolutely HATE it! Why do you have to take the approach of “well if it ain’t broke, let’s fix it til it is”. Come on Apple be better! You are known for easy operating systems and this is not it.

Not going to lie. I absolutely love the change. I can now access the Control Center from any screen, not just the watch face. Apple really made a nice improvement here.

Apple doesn't read here in this user-to-user forum for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:
