We have not had issues until this week and it will not let her swipe to get in. It is asking for a passcode and I am not sure if one was ever set up
It is asking for a passcode and she does not have a passcode. She was always able to swipe and now she cannot swipe or sign-in at all.

Not possible to set up "swipe" without first setting up a passcode.
If the passcode is unknown, you will have to erase / reset the phone and set it up again with a new passcode.
If you forgot your iPhone passcode - Apple Support
You can then use a recent backup to restore the phone, so it will look it did before disaster struck.
Might be a good idea to write down the new passcode and keep it in a safe place......even if everyone is sure that it will never be forgotten.
