When trying to install Catalina OS I received the following message, "The recovery server could not be contacted"

I tried to install Catalina OS on my MacBook Pro 13" 2012 midyear, which is currently running Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6. I repeatedly get the message, "The recovery server could not be contacted." I have a 1 TB solid state hard drive with sufficient space, and have 16 GB of ram.

"My computer meets all of the following requirements: 'If you're using one of these computers with OS X Mavericks or later, you can install macOS Catalina. Your Mac also needs at least 4GB of memory and 12.5GB of available storage space, or up to 18.5GB of storage space when upgrading from OS X Yosemite or earlier.'

"I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch MID YEAR 2012."

OK. So, it is retina? If not, then it should work. You'd just have to troubleshoot the Ethernet Connection. So, what in recovery mode, connect using Ethernet. Then, go into Utility menu > Terminal > and type this command:

ping google.com

See if you get a ping back. If so, then you have a network connection.

You can't. This not an option for you. So, take this as a goo reason to upgrade. See here: macOS Catalina 10.15 - Hardware Requirements - Apple Support
