Dual physical SIM does not work in my new IPHONE 14 PRO

I recently purchase a new IPhone 14 Pro in Australia after being told it supported dual physical SIM cards. As there are many articles on Apple support about how to do this... I believed the statement to be true.

1- My iphone came with only a single card tray

2- When I purchase a dual sim card tray and fitted 2 SIM Cards. The IPhone did not recognise the second SIM card.

Annoying as this is the only reason I chose an Iphone..

What is the problem here?

Is there a solution or am I stuck with a phone that does not do what apple claims it can do?

iPhone X, iOS 16

The dual physical SIM iPhone is only available in China (and its 2 SARs: HK and Macau). Has been this way since the since the iPhone stared supporting eSIMS with the iPhone XS. The rest of the world (except USA) has the ONE physical SIM and multiple eSIM capabilities. Since the iPhone 14 USA iPhones have NO physical SIM slots.

You have only yourself to blame because you failed to read what you were buying. You misled yourself. No one misled you.

”Using Dual SIM with two nano-SIM cards
In China mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao, certain iPhone models feature Dual SIM with two nano-SIM cards.”

Which means that Apple was being very upfront about SIMs/eSIMs – not trying to mislead people with some sort of false or deceptive advertising at all.

Here are the Technical Specifications for the iPhone 14 Pro from the Australian Apple site.

iPhone 14 Pro - Technical Specifications (AU)

They mention a "SIM tray (available on models purchased outside the U.S.), but also say

  • Dual eSIM (two active eSIMs, stores eight or more eSIMs)
  • iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max use eSIM technology and are not compatible with physical SIM cards.

The wording could be clearer. But nowhere in these specifications does Apple promise that any iPhone 14 Pros support dual nano-SIM cards.

Identify your iPhone model – Apple Support (AU)

"In the United States, there is no SIM tray. In other countries or regions, there's a SIM tray on the left-hand side that holds a "fourth form factor" (4FF) nano-SIM card." Again, no promise of dual physical SIM card support in Australian models.

Australian model iPhone 14 pro only supports e-sim and has a single nano sim slot. Changing the SIM card tray will not help as the Australian version has only pins for a single SIM card on the SIM reader inside the phone. You can bust your iPhone open and change the SIM card reader in the phone but that will void any warranty and service from Apple will usually be denied from my understanding. Best to buy a Hong Kong model. They come with dual nano sim reader from factory. Hope you enjoy your new iPhone
