Screen's flickering/blinking randomly! [Sonoma 14.1.1.]

I updated my MacBook Pro M2 13" to Sonoma 14.1.1. a day or 2 back.

My screen has now started to flicker and blink continuously. I removed the automatic brightness features, true tone, etc. but all to no avail. I restarted the laptop 3-4 times already; shut it down and opened it twice. No change.

I ran the MacOS hardware diagnostics test, and it said that there's an issue with the charging port. Not sure what it meant as the description wasn't quite clear either.

Is this related to the update? Or the charging port issue?

The flickering started randomly, as my laptop was fine a couple of hours back.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Try and clean the charging port. After that try and boot the Mac in the safe mode to rule out software issues.

Start up your Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.
  2. Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.
  3. Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.
  4. Select a volume.
  5. Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.
  6. The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

if the issue does not persist in the safe mode it is caused by an external piece of software

For what it's worth, my 2021 M1 Pro 14" MacBook Pro experienced the same thing. Not the screen flashing, still on Monterey here... But when I tested the machine via hardware diagnostics, I got the same "problem with charging port" error. I was using an Anker charger with the apple-supplied MagSafe cable, but when I tested it with the Apple power adapter, I did not get the error. There is likely nothing wrong with your charging port (or anyone else's for that matter) if you are using an aftermarket charging solution.
