Running Monterey 12.7.1 on my MacBook Pro and now I'm getting messages saying that I cannot connect to my iPad nor my IPhone unless I update my OS.
In fact, I CAN connect to both of these devices, so why am I being pressured to update?
Shouldn't it be my choice when I want to update OS or IOS software?

If your Mac says that a software update is required to connect to iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
If so it is not an OS update, not for your iPhone, nor your iPad, nor your Mac. You do not need to upgrade macOS to connect your iOS devices.
FWIW, it's just a patch, not an upgrade. Allow it.
You can believe what you want, but you're wrong.
The update it wants you to install when you connect the device is a driver update only, not a complete OS update.
When you plug in the device, and it prompts you to install the update, accept the update and let it install. it only takes a few minutes at most.

You're correct. I thought you were referring to the link at the top of the page. Sonoma 14.1.1 would definately be an upgrade from Monterey.
