Hi, I have a Macbook air of 2014 model. For some reason, I had to reformat & freshly installed "OS X Mavericks". When I wanted to upgrade it's OS to "Yosemite". I am unable to do it as a message pop up on the screen"This update requires OS X version 10.10". I installed Yosemite OS 10.10 from apple support. But still it don't work as same alert pop up on the screen. Please advise how to deal with this. Thanks

Click here and then on the download link for a higher OS. The ones elsewhere on Apple's website are updaters and can't be used for a full-version upgrade.

For what it's worth, an early 2014 MacBook Air would have come with Mac OS X 10.9.2 (Mavericks). It would be able to run anything up to Big Sur (but nothing later than that).

Do you have any bootable backups that you could use to start up the Mac while you try to get the internal startup volume fixed?
