Accessibility Permissions aren't kept under macOs Ventura

Hi,

I'm using a MBA M1 with macos 13.6.1 and have this very annoying problem:

When I boot the mac, lots of apps ask me to grant them accessibility permissions.

After I've given them the rights, the apps work until I have to boot again.

Then I have to give them the rights again.

Sometimes (when opening the system settings) I can see the list of the apps and the one that is asking for permissions is there already (marked as active).

Sometimes the list is empty until I reboot once or twice. And no matter what I do, the apps keep asking for permissions I already granted.

I had this also with Monterey, but only once in a while. Now I have it with every boot, which means that every morning I start the computer I've to grant permissions before I can begin to work.

Things I have already tried:

  • sudo tccutil reset Accessibility - did not work
  • reinstalling the apps - hadn't worked either
  • removing com.apple.security.KCN.plist - did not work
  • tccutil reset all - did not work

What I haven't tried: Reinstall the whole system, as I've read in some forums, that when people did that, the problem came back after a short while.

The apps that are affected by this problem:

  • Alfred 3
  • Bartender 4 (also Screen Capture permissions can't be given permanently)
  • Default Folder X
  • Dropbox
  • Logi Options+
  • Monitor Control
  • Raycast
  • Typinator

If anyone has solved this problem already or knows a solution I'd be very glad to learn about that.

Thanks in advance!

I have not seen this problem before, and I have plenty of applications with permissions for a lot of things.

Maybe there is a stuck plist file (but no idea what that is), or maybe there is some third party software conflict.

I realize that this is extremely annoying and a serious productivity problem for you, but since it does not seem to be something that a lot of people experience (at least I have not heard of it before), it seems more likey that it's specific to your setup.

Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here. Use the "additional text" button and paste the report into the text box. By looking at the report, we may be able to spot something that leads to a solution.

Your system drive is getting nearly full.

It shows only some 6% free (although 12% is "available"... Apple makes it hard to actually free everything there).

You have old Parallels kernel extensions that were made for intel, and are only "partially compatible" with Ventura, according to Parallels.

You also have probably the longest list of plug-ins, agents, and login items that I remember seeing.

It is possible that some of these are old and not working well in Ventura, but they are so many that it's really hard to pinpoint anything.

Five Finder sync extensions... they may be all right, but I fear these things...

The sheer number of audio plug-ins is staggering. They may be all right, too, but again I have never seen anything on this scale (some 170 audio plug-ins!).

I also noticed that eqmac has crashed twice. There may be nothing in it, or maybe one these plug-ins has issues.

This is much of a "needle in a haystack" situation.

Hi Luis,

thanks for your help!

No, I haven't any "antivirus" or "cleaners" installed. And I now have tried your Safe Mode-method but the problem is still there.

And the two apps I reinstalled (for trying if this could fix the problem, i reinstalled monitor control and bartender4) don't start at logon no more, although I marked that option in the apps. In the system settings I can't add them to the autostart-apps. Not with the plus-sign nor by dragging and dropping them onto the list. So the only way to start them is manually.

I can't understand how apple can publish a .6-version of the os that is still this buggy. In the past years I updated the os not earlier than the .3-version but then it usually worked. This time I waited until 13.6. to update and my system seems to be messed up after the update.

Hi Luis,

thanks for your reply and sorry for coming back a little late but I've been a bit sick.

I posted the etre check result in the additional text.

I hope you can see anything related in it.

Thanks and best regards,

Hussein

Hey Luis,

thanks for taking the time to look over that etre check report.

Yes, I know about the nearly full harddrive. I didn't knew that the old parallels kernel are still there, so thanks for making that clear.

The audio-plugins are mostly virtual instruments. I have 2 apps of synthesizer collections, where each synth is an audio-plugin. These two apps alone are about 50 audio-plug-ins. And I have more vsts as I have made music for some 25 years now.

I'm aware of the "needle in a haystack"-situation. Because of this I had already thought about just installing everything fresh and not from the backup. But in other forums I read posts of people having the same problems as I have who did this - just to find themselves with the same problems a few weeks later, so I had refused the idea.

But maybe I should do this. Anyway, thanks for your time and help!

Cheers,

Hussein
