NOT seeing iphone SE (2020) since iOS 17 update in Itunes 12.8.3.1 under MacOS HIGH Sierra

Contrary to statements made by apple when upgrading to iOS17 that it will work on High Sierra with Itunes 12.8, Itunes no longer sees the Iphone since upgrade to iOs17.

A software update is required but cannot be accomplished; I get message that

"can't download the software because of a network problem" I have fast cable ...

How can this be sorted please? Weirdly, the PC community appears to be spared from such issues and able to work with far more backdating Itunes versions but loyal apple customers are suffering...

i think i just found a solution,

i googled and found this post:

Is iOS 17 compatible with itunes 12.8.2.3… - Apple Community

which pointed to this post:

https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/461301/mac-os-10-13-6-and-newer-mobile-devices-not-working-with-itunes-12-8-3-1-mobiled/

i followed the instructions,

i downloaded xcode 15 from

Xcode 15 - Apple Developer

or

https://developer.apple.com/download/all/?q=Xcode

i unzipped it, went to show package contents, and navigated to:

Contents/Resources/Packages/MobileDevice.pkg

and ran that package, as the instructions stated.

i quit itunes, unplugged the phone, reopened itunes, plugged the phone in, and now it's there.

Thank you, Allenying.

I have a huge music library on my late 2012 iMac and I prefer to back up and to transfer my music to my iPhone manually and found that iOS 17 on my iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 pro did not play nice with iTunes on high sierra.

Was getting more and more frustrated with the “can’t connect to server…“ message when it said iTunes needed to download software and update to be able to connect my phone15 pro.

i was initially hesitant with the idea of playing with Xcode and mucking with the system libraries but the instructions as described in the links are straight forward and didn’t really require much on my part at all.

I’m very happy now that iTunes can see my iPhone 15 pro and I can backup and transfer music again from my iMac.

👍🏻🙏🏻😊

I remember this step of being prompted to download software updates for iTunes to see my new iPhones previously and it always went smoothly so I’m very disappointed with Apple that this step has not worked this time around and we have to resort to workarounds.

Thank you for confirming that.

On an additional note. I have been getting a pop up upon opening Itunes that the itl library is damaged / corrupted and it creates a new library that does of course not contain all the items I imported from my physical DVDs etc.

I CAN replace the library with a previous one, however, upon closing and reopening Itunes I get the same error message, which means I am stuck with this library and cannot add anything to it.

I have reinstalled Itunes from a time machine backup, and that does only work once and then I get the same error message again.

Would you have an idea if/how this can be remedied? The posts I found so far have not helped me, unfortunately. And I don't know what happens that makes the library look corrupted after opening and closing Itunes.

Thank you.
