Start Up delay of Apple TV = about 11 seconds

Start Up delay of Apple TV = 11 seconds between pushing the remote’s power button and the appearance of the Home Screen.

This delay was about 2 seconds with tvOS 16 and earlier. Went up to 11 seconds with tvOS 17.

Once started up, there is **no** noticeable delay in starting up individual Apps.

**Only** for initial Start Up.

a) direct Ethernet connection from 1Gbps gateway

b) ATV settings:

Turn On TV with

Remote = ON

c) **only** HDMI input to my Samsung TV = my Apple TV

d) Samsung Preferences:

Source = Apple TV

(Port 1)

I have listed all the Facts.

Beliefs follow:

Can’t seem to blame Network because all Apps individually start up fast.

Can’t seem to blame ATV box.

Direct Ethernet cable from Router - so can’t blame wireless.

SO, that seems to leave tvOS 17 with a 11 second delay - versus 2 seconds with earlier versions.

The answer from both Samsung and Apple = YES.

My former Cable Box is an Active Input. Even a PlayStation Console. As a result, the Samsung or any TV must sense an Active Input and power up immediately.

A Apple TV = non-Active. So the Samsung will take time to come on because it does *not need to*.

Such behavior is considered SOP.

IN short, what I called a problem is **not a problem**.

Good morning

I have the same problem

when I plugged it in, everything works fine for 24 hours, the Apple TV turns on the television and the sound bar after 2 seconds then little bylittle, as the days go by it increases the turn-on delay, up to 30 seconds

It's quite painful!

tested on 3 televisions and it's the same thing

I have reset several times, changed the HDMI cable, tried the other 2 HDMI ports and still the same

For my part it goes back to tvos16 and I hope that there will be an update which will resolve the malfunction

Oh, okay

I turn on everything with my ATV remote.

I have gone into the ATV settings to set that when the ATV turns on that the television turns on.

I have experienced around a 5 second delay between the power on light on the ATV box appearing and the television screen showing.

I have spoken with an Apple Tech Support rep who said that is SOP *if* Streaming.

When I had cable, zero delay.

When streaming => delay.

The problem rests with the TV software and the Apple TV software.

I do not have Cable anymore. When I did, ZERO delay because your TV needs sound right now since the TV has an “active” customer there, namely, the Cable Box. So the TV sends its signal now to your external speakers.

With only streaming, delay is still ZERO for all Apps **except** iTunes movies.

These non-iTunes Apps are considered “active” by the TV software and therefore the TV software sends a signal to your external speakers now.

However, the iTunes computer programmers decided to (1) check if you paid for all these iTunes stuff and (2) check for the existence of external speakers.

If the programmers had reversed (1) and (2) ==> zero delay.

For other stuff:

Netflix needs only to check ONE thing ==> zero delay

History App checks for nothing ==> zero delay.

There you go.

“Start Up delay of Apple TV = 11 seconds between pushing the remote’s power button and the appearance of the Home Screen.”

SO, you push the button on your remote and the ATV Box’s light comes on immediately!!

You’re talking about 11 seconds later the ATV Home Screen shows!!!

ANSWER = Active versus Non-active input
