catalina preference security privacy

Currently I have an iMac 10.15.7 with the problem “unable to open the “security and privacy” preference tab”

I summarize below the various tests that were undertaken.

When I try to modify my system preferences and more specifically those concerning security and confidentiality.

I get the message: “Could not load Security & Privacy preference”.

However, from the command line:

:; tccutil reset All

Successfully reset All

I remove file :  ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist

I used SOS on the 2 partitions (system and data) of my disk, I used onyx. I reloaded Catalina.

I still get the same message “Could not load Security & Privacy preference pane. »

Following your advice, on my iMac, I created a new 'test' administrator and logged in with this new account. The problem persists.

Then, in recovery mode,

 rm /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/Library/Application\ Support/com.apple.TCC/TCC.db

and reboot

The problem persists

Then :

sudo diskutil resetUserPermissions / `id -u`

[...]

Ready to reset user permissions on disk2s5 Interne

Started verify/repair permissions on disk2s5 Interne

User permissions have been reset

Finished verify/repair permissions on disk2s5 Interne

[~]:; tccutil reset All

Successfully reset All

Then :

 rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.plist

 rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.revocation.plist

Insufficient, The problem persists

Finally,

I wiped and deleted the internal drive then reinstalled Catalina then migrated from Time Machine.

Without success. The problem persists

Is there a command from the terminal, even in secure mode; if necessary; to restore the possibility

to change security and privacy preferences?

Or another workaround ?

Thank you in advance for your help during this Advent season 😔

What does SOS mean in this context? Did you mean First Aid (in Disk Utility)?

Can you try erasing your Mac, reinstalling Catalina, and then setting up your iMac fresh (without restoring)? Does the issue still persist then? If that resolves the issue, try these steps:

  1. Erase your Mac and reinstall Catalina.
  2. In the Setup Assistant, choose to import from Time Machine, and select only the Applications folder and your user account. Refuse everything else.
  3. Check if the issue returns.

OK. I did :

Erase your Mac and reinstall Catalina.

It was effective...

but, unfortunately, very time-consuming, especially since many details have to be re-fixed. BO, finally, it works, that’s already it.

Thanks again

Have you run Disk 1st Aid from Restore Mode?

Might try this in Finder evenn though you've done the equivelent in Terminal...

Do a Get info on your Home folder, unlock the lock in the Get Info panel. Make sure it says you have Read & Write privileges.

Using the tiny gear icon, use the drop down to "Apply to enclosed items...

Let’s see if there’s a locked file interfering.

Open Terminal & paste this command in & prefs enter, it’ll ask for an admin password & not echo what you type, wait for it to finish which will be an empty prompt unless it prints out some locked files, or Operation not permitted…

cd /;sudo find . -type f -flags +uchg

Or thanks to VikingOSX, the Home folder is quicker..

find $HOME -type f -flags +uchg \( ! -path "$HOME/Library/*" \) -prune
