Does Apple Pay offer any buyer protection when a purchase turns out to be fraudulent?

I used Apple Pay, and the merchant hasn't responded or refunded! In addition, I thought Apple Pay protected my actual debit card number from being shared.

Apple Pay is simply a means to enable contactless payments or payments using your card through merchants that accept Apple Pay.

If you use your card, contact your card issuer.

If you mean Apple Cash? Apple Cash is simply cash. There is no buyer protection for cash.
