MacBook Air with IOS Sierrs (10.12.6)

Have a new HP printer that needs IOS 11 Big Sur. How can I see if I can upgrade? When I go into software update nothing shows. Does this mean I cannot upgrade to 11?

Macs run macOS – not iOS.

If you go into About This Mac in the Apple () menu, what does it say about the model name, year, and time of year (if applicable)? I'm pretty sure that any Mac that is running Sierra (10.12) can upgrade to High Sierra (10.13), but we need to look at the hardware model year to see if you can upgrade any further than that.

You'll need at least a Mid 2013 MacBook Air to run Big Sur, or an Early 2015 one to run Monterey.

I don't believe that any MacBook Air that is capable of running Sierra is also capable of running Ventura or later.

The App Store likes to hide old versions of macOS by default. Once you know which ones are compatible with your Mac, use the links in this Support article to upgrade.

If you upgrade to Catalina, Big Sur, or Monterey,

If your Mac can run Monterey, upgrading to it would have the advantage of letting you run one of the "most recent three" versions of macOS, for about a year, until Sonoma's successor comes out.
