i want to remove my docs from my icloud backups. how can i do that?

i'd like to remove the docs from backing up.

iCloud I recently purchased increased iCloud space. Now all my docs are saved in iCloud drive. I turned it off Friday, and did archive my stuff on my computer, but I do NOT want that! I want it to save on my computer, and only upload to iCloud docs if I ask it to. Is that possible? It took over an hour to link it back and download back to my computer (of course at a time I was on a tim crunch...ugh!). If I cancel iCloud storage, will I lose them all???? The archive was hard to find!!

You can turn off Desktop and Documents on your Mac (system settings > Apple ID > iCloud > iCloud Drive). That will stop the sync of data.
