One too many programs and apps, starting up on MacBook, 15

When I start my MacBook 15 from power off mode, I have many programs and apps that start up and I have none designated to do so. There are so many of them. Is there a solution to this? I kind of regret getting a MacBook. It has to be the software. No updates remedy this. That’s not the only thing that is quirky about this software. I’m very well versed with iPads and iPhones, but I’m fairly new to Mac, it’s not hard it’s just new to me. Anybody else experiencing this?

Refer to this excerpt from Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support:

If you don’t want app windows that are open to reopen when your Mac restarts, deselect “Reopen windows when logging back in.”

Just like your iPads and iPhones there is seldom a need to ever completely power down a Mac. If you are not using it, just ignore it. If you want to transport it, or if you want to prevent others from looking as it when you aren't, then close its lid.
