Will iPhone 5 still work, for basic functions?
I can give this phone to someone who needs it if it will work.

It will not work as a phone in the US. US carriers require devices that support VoLTE. That means an iPhone 6 or newer. (note: T-Mobile does still have a network that will function on the iPhone 5, but it will be shut down early in 2024)
