I have a Mac Studio M1 Ultra running current version of Ventura. I want to upgrade to Sonoma. I have 2 administrator accounts. Whichever account i sign in with, the option to be able to administer the computer is greyed out. Any suggestions please?

Thanks, and sorry for delay in reacting.
I tried the Terminal route for one of my admin accounts, but this did not work because the password it requested was not recognised.
I had been concerned that i could not recall the p/w for the second account but then tried anyway. So, signed out of one account and then in with the other, and was then able to upgrade to Sonoma.
Signed out and signed back in with my preferred account. All ok.
So, it seems - on my setup at least - that even if there are more than one accounts with admin privileges, only one actually allows OS upgrades and only if signed in with that account.
Odd about Terminal, because I use the same p/w for both admin accounts, so should have worked (?) whichever of the admin accounts i tried first.

Suggest we establish if the Administrator Privileges are correct for either of the 2 accounts.
There are rare times when something has done wrong and you have lost Administrator Privileges
if in doubt about admin from your logged in user account, from Terminal.app copy and paste â
dscacheutil -q group -a name admin

If I may and it may help to explain the Admin Account issue you have experienced >>
The " Owner Account of this computer " has that privilege to add, remove, upgrade or downgrade accounts. This would include adding more Admin Accounts and / or downgrading an ADDED Admin account
Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac
Normally the " Owner Account " is the very first Account used when the Computer was Very First Setup as New and out of the box.
Adding additional Admin Account can be done there after.

Let us start by asking.
How many times has the computer been restated since the Upgrade ?
Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.
Safe Mode will also eliminate Third Party Software, extensions and drivers from loading. It will only load the Minimum amount of Core Apple Processes to allow the the computer to function at a reduced Level of Performance
Does the issue present in this mode ?
Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

I've looked at the links - how interesting. This must be what I stumbled across.
I've only skimmed the Apple link - yes, this sets out what added users can/cant do and this doesn't include OS updates, but it's not helpful that it's not explicit, nor that there isn't anything about 'owner' accounts.

Apple does not always explicitly disclose some information and that is why we comb the net for additional undisclosed reliable informations
