Updating a Mac Past macOS 10.13 High Sierra:
I. Compatibility Restrictions:
If your device cannot be upgraded past macOS High Sierra (10.13). This is because for Mojave (10.14) it does not meet hardware requirements.
- Go Here: macOS High Sierra - Technical Specifications - Apple Support
- Go Here: macOS Mojave 10.14 - Hardware Requirements - Apple Support
- Scroll to: Mac Hardware Requirements
II. Two Important Streps to Upgrading: Back Up, then Upgrade
A. Back Up Prior to the Installation:
Create a Time Machine Backup prior to the install, that way, you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the upgrade. Use an external hard drive that is at least 1.5 the total storage capacity as that of your internal hard drive.
B. Where to get the Upgrade:
- Go Here: How to get old versions of macOS - Apple Support
- Scroll to: Download macOS
- Click: macOS High Sierra 10.13
- Proceed with the install
