Advanced Data Protection STOPPED WORKING

I have iOS 17.1.2 on an iPhone 12. I've been using ADP for over a year. I had an issue on June 2023 wherein accessing ADP protected components, over the web (using my browser) would time out telling me my device was not on the internet. This was fixed by Apple. That's when iOS 16.x came out. With this update of iOS 17.1.2, a few days after, I am having the same issue. When I click on NOTES, for example, it will say NOTES Sending Access Request to Your Devices" My iPhone would be prompted ALLOW YOUR ICLOUD DATA TO BE ACCESSED ON THE WEB? I would click on ALLOW ACCESS then I would get access on my browser.

Since 12.04.2023, it shows GETTING ACCESS after I click on ALLOW ACCESS then, after a minute, errors out indicating "CAN'T DISPLAY YOUR NOTES" Your device hasn't given access to display your notes. Check that it is on and connected to the internet.

This is Deja vu all over again (pardon me, Yogi Berra). In June 2023, when I had this issue. I spent 12 hours with Apple on the phone with various support reps, senior reps, removing VPN profiles, going to the Apple store/genius bar, turning OFF ADP and turning it back on to no avail. Apple 'fixed' this issue after about a week.

It is happening again and I opened a case with Apple. Anyone having the same misery I am?

I actually had a great chat with Apple Support. They connected me almost immediately to a very experienced technical support engineer (TSE). After running some advanced diagnostics, they raised the issue with development who said they needed additional diagnostics. I sent screenshots, recorded videos of the issue and associated configuration and even installed a special support profile on my phone to capture the additional logging data. This went back to support who reached out again today that they heard from the development team. The TSE informed me that a fix is "in the works" but could not offer any information on when it would be released yet. He told me to update the case again if it's not fixed in 17.3

I highly suggest that everyone here open a proper technical support case with Apple and supply relevant logging data if you ever want this fixed. The more data points they have about users needing this resolved, the faster it will happen.

Having said that, I'm not holding my breath here.

Folks, it has nothing to do with the iOS update to 17.2.1. I have 17.2 and it worked when I checked at 6:30 this morning. It was an Apple backend fix.

I am updating now to iOS 17.2.1 and hope that doesn’t break what is no working with ADP.

For those still having issues, try logging into iCloud in a private or incognito window. Make sure your adp in your iPhone settings allows web access.

Well wishes and Merry Christmas.
