Why do i have to pay for apple original content, even though i have apple tv subscription?

I know that I might need to rent or buy movies on Apple TV that are not Apple content (original). But I saw today that Killers of the Flower Moon (which my Apple TV has been advertising for months) finally shows up, and it says buy or rent. I thought the whole point of being a subscriber is that you get to see original content for free like other streaming.

It is not a good look on Apple (a bit greedy) and on some level betraying customer trust ... no matter the reason behind this.

It will eventually be available free as part of Apple TV+

Killers of the Flower Moon was first released in theaters only and yesterday was released to buy or rent on many video on demand services including Apple. It will eventually be part of Apple TV+.

That is something different than has been done before. It may be due to the partnership with Paramount.

It’s due to consideration for Hollywood awards, most likely.

Oscars, etc. have theatrical release requirements to be considered for one.

Or as you stated, it’s something to do with the legal contract with the maker/distributor.

I think Apple TV should stop advertising its original content in the 'it is coming' section until it is actually free for subscribers when the content is Apple original. Or be upfront about it that it is available first on a rent/buy basis.

In principle, till now at least, subscribers get it free if the content is Apple original.

Killers of the flower moon is a movie currently in theatres. It’s possible that at some point the movie will be added to Apple TV+ content. Until then, the options are to buy the film or rent.
