Apple Books 5.2 broken on Ventura 13.4

I just purchased a new MacBook Air 15-inch M2. It came with Ventura 13.4 installed. I'm running Apple Books 5.2 on it, and it's unusable. It keeps quitting. The text goes invisible. Functions like highlighting are slow and uncertain.

Books won't open on M2 MacBook Air On my Mac Mini and iPad Air I can open and read all my books without issue. On my MacBook Air M2, only a few of my books will open. They all used to open, prior to Ventura. My Mac Mini, iPad Air and MacBook Air are all associated with my AppleID and all have been authorised. One weird thing I noticed is that in Books | Settings | General if I tick download new purchases automatically it only stays ticked for a few seconds. I have tried signing in and out of my account. I tried de-authorizing and re-authorizing my MacBook Air. Not even an Apple book like "MacBook Air Essentials" will open on my MacBook Air.

Mac Book 2017 flexgate issue My 2017 Mac book diagnosed with broken flex cable causing screen to go permanently black. Anyone having luck getting this covered since 2017 is not included in the service program by Apple?

How to reconnect My Book to my 2021 iMac I received this message today on my 2021 24-inch iMac. I ejected My Book, unplugged the USB from the back of the computer, then plugged the USB back into the computer. Then I restarted the computer. I went to disk utility and chose connect My Book. Then I received a disk utility message saying it cannot connect. I've tried this several times, with no luck. Now when I go to disk utility, My Book does not show up at all. Do I need to replace My Book with a more current external hard drive? I've had this one since 2009.
