Chrome browser crashes on new Macbook Pro

I just spent $2300 on a brand new 16" Macbook Pro, M3 chip, etc. Updated to Sonoma 14.1 immediately after purchasing. I have several desktops open at all times, each with one or two Chrome windows open, each with 3-5 tabs. This is necessary for me for my work, and part of the reason I splurged on this expensive machine was to allow this without heating up.

However, several times per day, every single Chrome window just immediately closes. I have to open Chrome again and "Restore" all my windows, which then all open up in one desktop, so I have to reassign all of them to their correct desktops again. In fact, it just happened WHILE I was writing this and I had to start over.

It's pretty annoying! Not to mention time-intensive, and a huge disruption to my workflow every day.

This was not happening with the 2015 Macbook Pro that I used before this huge purchase. Could it be a bug in the new Sonoma update? Or is it something about this new, expensive laptop that I just purchased?

Per John Galt's post. Why in the world would you choose to use Chrome?

I really don't get what people think is so great about Chrome. It's a known, massive resource hog. On top of that, from the moment you turn your Mac on to the time you turn it off, it is constantly sending anonymized data of your computer and web usage to Google's servers. Chrome doesn't even have to be running. The keystone agents…

/Library/LaunchDaemons/google.keystone.agent.plist

/Library/LaunchDaemons/google.keystone.xpcservice.plist

…do that by launching apps buried within the Chrome app, which load at startup. And then there's this.

We don't allow any software written by Google on our Macs. Not Chrome, Google Earth, or anything else. Google's real business is collecting marketing data. You are their unwilling and unpaid source for it when you use any of their junk. If Safari isn't a browser you care much for, try Firefox or Brave. If you have one, you do not need Chrome to access your Google account. You can do that from any browser.

Remove Chrome and its daemons. Never install it again.

And yet another reason to never allow any app written by Google on your computer.

Google told users that when using incognito/private mode, Chrome would not track your usage, or collect data. They lied. It did anyway. Google has now agreed to settle the 2020 lawsuit with a five billion dollar fine.

But even so, according to another article on the lawsuit, that 5 billion is still a drop in the bucket to what Google has made on the collected data.

I'm experiencing the same issue with Chrome with the same Macbook Pro 16inch M3. I upgraded to get away from the overheating as well and Chrome never crashed like this on my 2019 MBP. I also don't experience any crashing issues on HP computer I use regularly that is signed into my Chrome profile.

I hope Apple can solve this issue sooner than later.
