How to connect my GoPro to my MacBook Air wirelessly?

I'm trying to get videos from my GoPro to my MacBook Air. I guess it is well established that the Mac won't allow a wireless connection with a GoPro. So, the online documentation says that connecting the two with a cable will cause the GoPro to show up in the native "Image Capture" app under "Devices." There are several screenshots online. However, when I connect them, the GoPro does not appear in the Devices list. I've restarted both devices, checked the cable, used different ports, everything I can think of, but the Mac simply ignores the GoPro. Please help!

Swipe the screen on your GoPro and navigate to the "Connections" menu. Set the USB Connection type to "MTP" and give it a try! It should show up in Image Capture now.
