Carrier locked

I bought my iphone 14 pro almost 8 months ago from a guy online the mobile was box packed and was activated by me i paid a separate $500 tax here to my government so i can use sim card in it. I came to know that my phone was carrier locked by a US based company called sprint mobile. It was fully paid nor it was stolen i asked them to unlock it and if their is any outstanding balance i will pay for it but they refused because i didn’t had the account details of which this mobile was associated with the person I bought the phone from isn’t taking any responsibility and had blocked me if anyone can help me please let me know i have paid a huge sum on the phone and the taxes to the government. I have been using two phones just because of this issue.

Sorry, but there is nothing anyone here or at Apple can do about it.

As you have discovered, Sprint will not unlock a device if you are not a current customer in good standing.

Sell it or recycle it and take this as a life lesson.

Buy phones in your own country from authorized retailers.

You got scammed. The fact that the seller refuses to help or even talk to you confirms this. The phone is still under a contract with Sprint, and only the previous owner can resolve that. No US carriers will help anyone remove the carrier lock on a phone unless that person is a currently paying customer.

It is extremely unlikely that you will ever be able to use that iPhone.

I bought my 13 promax and now carrier lock

Which, unfortunately, is an indication that you may not always be able to trust the sellers of used phones.

The fact that the phone is carrier-locked is an important piece of information that the seller should have disclosed before the sale, because it might have affected your decision to buy, or not buy. However, that is between you and the seller. Not between you and us, or between you and Apple.

what about if the phone was a replacement phone from Apple insurance? I’m having a similar issue where I got a replacement phone last year and it has a carrier lock as per with the setting say, however, AT&T is unable to unlock it and even their escalation team is having issues, they got Apple escalation support on the line for me but they submitted a case. Has anyone seen this before with a replacement phone that you’re trying to get unlocked and it’s been paid off a few months ago
