Apple Books Showing Persistent Big Ad At End Of Book Covering Text

when reading a book in Apple Books on both iPad (Mini 6 / OS 17.1.2) & iPhone (14 Pro Max / OS 17.1.2), using the continuous scroll view instead of turning pages, an advertisement appears when close to the end of the book. then when just a few paragraphs (pages/scrolls) away from the end, that advertisement grows to cover the majority of the screen, completely occluding the text.

i can (X) close both but as soon as i touch the screen to scroll more, they both pop right back up. the smaller one is tolerable, but not being able to have the big one stay closed or minimized, makes it very difficult to read the final bits of the book.

is there a way to disable these (or at least the big one)?
