Activation lock on apple watch

I bought a second hand apple watch but when it had an activation lock on it. I contacted the seller and he apologized and erased the apple watch from icloud.com. He told me that it said “erase request pending”. Before it showed the screen where it has the hidden apple ID but now it says “This apple watch was lost and erased” and it no longer has the activation lock screen from before. Does this mean the request is still pending? What could the seller do in this situation?
