Getting Error 400 when signing into gmail using apple mail app

I changed my gmail password on the google website. When I attempted to change it on my apple mail app on my MacBook Pro, I got a google error 400 "The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried."

I have read that it may be because my operating system is not the latest even though it is the latest available for my 2017 MacBook Pro. I am running Ventura 13.6.1.

Is there a workaround? I like all my email accounts in the apple mail app.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 13.6
