Fixed, automatically. If you go to the error, and shake your iPhone, you are then prompted by a support page. I wrote the problem and them, 5 minutes later all good.
Did you loose your contacts or conversations that were already in messenger?

No
I had this problem with photos on Messenger and it was just the RAM that was used up so I just had to close all apps.
Where in Settings is this?
I just rebooted my phone and it fixed the problem.
Had that issue for a few days and was able to fix it by deleting messenger and redownloading it. My friends with apple devices also had the same issue.
I turned my phone off and then on again and I could see pics.
Just update to most recent version 438.1 and issue was resolved.

I had the same problem on my iPhone 13. I turned my phone off and then back on again, and it fixed the problem.
Yep same was happening on my iPhone. And i uninstalled and reinstalled and it works properly now
Settings-Messenger (icon) - select All Photos. It worked for me, hope it works for you.
