Unable to see photos in messenger

Mine was doing this as well but i found in settings that the cloud had new terms and conditions that i needed to accept. As soon as i did that messenger could access the cloud and all the photos were visable again. Didnt need to reinstall anything and didnt lose any messages. Hope this helps others as well.

try uninstalling messenger and reinstalling. some people have reported that fixed it. This will not delete your data/photos/viddoes. All the data for Facbook Messenger is stored in the cloud. So it will all still be there once you have signed back in to messenger.

If you have forgotten your facebook password: go to facebook, sign out, then go to the sign in page and use the "forgot my password" tool. reset your password and save it so you don't lose it again. Then delete messenger, and sign back in.

I had the same problem today. I finally figured out the simple fix. I made sure to back up my icloud but it may not be necessary, then uninstalled Messenger and reinstalled. All my blank photos I sent today reappeared. It’s definitely an iPhone issue because my laptop was fine!

I uninstalled/deleted my messenger app and reinstalled it and everything returned back to normal. It took less than two minutes. It started yesterday and I thought it was just my phone and IPAD but I came to this message board and followed the instructions and thankfully it worked great. Hope it works for you. It still had all my old messages and photos that were previously sent.

I went to the Apple App Store and looked under messenger and it said messenger has an update. And when I updated the app for messenger, it corrected the issue and others I have shared this with have had success.

I had the same issue today (12/13/22). I checked the App Store; there was an update. After I ran the update, I deleted the app and reinstalled. I’m able to see pics people sent and profile pics are back to normal.

1. Go to the App Store and update messenger.
2. delete messenger then reinstall it.
3. turn off your phone then back on it should now work
4. You will not lose any data

Yep. Installed the latest iPhone update ((17.2) and it blocked all my incoming Messenger photos to my iphone. Unistalled Messenger and then reinstalled it. Everything came back and is working OK now. I have pictures again.

all i did was removed the app.. went to apple store .. re installed messenger and hey presto it works fine now . And nothing deleted

You need to log off Messenger and log back in.

The way I did this was activate Face ID. Settings -> Privacy & safety -> App lock -> Require FaceID -> After I leave Messenger

Close messenger, get back in, Face ID, pictures.

You can turn this off after it logs back in.

I went to the App Store. It had an update button on fb Messenger and when I did, it was fixed instantly.

No, after uninstalled and re installed all the photos came back fine.

same problem w me. I fixed it by uninstalling Messenger and reinstalling. Now all good. Retained old messages and photos are now visible.

I tried many things and this is how I got fixed. (My phone is iPhone 13 and updated to 17.2)

1. Turn off Wi-Fi and mobile data.
2. Clear all the apps that you have opened in the background.
3. Uninstall the messenger.
4. Turn off the phone/iPad.
5. Turn it back on.
6. Reinstall the messenger.

It's not due to 17.2 or Messenger updating. The main reason is the Messenger Servers are not delivering media and files as usual, and this is due to an outage (reason unknown). All you need do is wait and the problem will be resolved automatically as mentioned here.
