launchpad icons get messed up after reboot/upgrade

On my 14" M1Pro MBP (MacOS 14.1.2) the launchpad icons got completely messed up and my custom layout has vanished.

I recently did the MacOS update from 14.1.1 to 14.1.2 and I had also turned of the laptop during my holidays, but I didn't have any issue with my Mac.

Any idea to prevent this from happening again?

Thanks

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.13

The current stable release of Sonoma including bug fixes, security updates is macOS 14.2 —I would start there

Reset the defaults in Launch Pad, from the terminal.app you can try, copy and paste:

defaults write com.apple.dock ResetLaunchPad -bool true; killall Dock

This will arrange all apple stock/system applications on the first launchpad page in the default order.

On the second, third etc. page all the other apps will be arranged alphabetically.

Try from there your custom arrangement and see if it sticks.
