Outlook, word excel, powerpoint all take between 3 nd 5 mins to verify when opened. This doe not haunt for any other programme. I am aware other mac user have the same problem . I understand why it has to happen once after initial install or after an update but it happens every time. Why and is there a fix?

On my 2016 Intel MacBook Pro MS Office apps took about 1 minute to verify...and the same is true (maybe a bit faster now) on my 2023 M2 MacBook Air.
If yours are taking 3-5 minutes to verify, it's highly possible you've got something hindering the performance of your iMac.
Do you have any anti-virus, Mac "Cleaners" or "Optimizers" installed...or VPN software installed. Put simply, those simply aren't needed on a Mac, and they inevitably create more issues than they prevent. (The ONLY use case for VPN, in my opinion, is if you need to connect to a corporate server that requires a VPN connection). If you have any of those, use the manufacturer's uninstaller to erase them, as simply dragging the app icon to the trash will not, normally, remove everything.
Thanks all. I decided to uninstall and reinstall the MS365 apps for Mac which has resolved the problem. Something which I should probably have tried before posting on this community forum.

My Office 2021 for Mac Home and Business applications auto-update as a background process. The first time I launch any of them after they have been updated, it takes 1 - 2 seconds to verify them in a momentary progress bar dialog.
There is something quite wrong for it to take 3 - 5 minutes for this process and makes me wonder if you have installed any anti-virus software that is interfering with the verification process or that your drive may be failing…
This is an Apple forum, if you have questions about Microsoft products you need to ask them. Also, Microsoft hosts Office for Mac forums, that is where the bulk of the Microsoft users tend to hang out.
I'm not trying to be snarky or mean, however your question is like a Ford owner walking into a Chevy dealership and asking about why Ford uses/does XYZ. The Chevy folks are going to point you to your Ford folks.
Hi, I don’t have any AV, VPN or any other program that I can think of that is slowing the verification process down. Although not a common problem, other users on Microsoft forums have reported similar experiences.
