Hi There 👋 I’ll step in to provide you accurate information of a decent quality.

Unfortunately, due to how our devices are manufactured, it means that after the point of purchase you cannot add physical storage. Essentially, you are stuck with what you bought.

However, what I recommend, is checking how much of your storage is full, what what has filled it up. If it’s photos, you can purchase iCloud storage which expands from the 5GB every account gets. iCloud storage allows you to create backups of your devices content, so if your IPad for example was ever stolen, it is super easy to recover content to your new IPad.

More relevant though, those photos which are currently using storage space on your IPad, may not have to be there and could instead be in the cloud.

If you’d like help with configuring iCloud properly, feel free to ask me, or refer to apple’s support articles at support.apple.com

Which is exactly the same answer that Niel gave above just with a lot more words.

If you delete the photos from the iPad, they are also deleted from iCloud. So, while you can optimize storage, they can't be entirely removed.
