What happens if I switch from Safari to Chrome?

Safari and Chrome are two different internet browsers; one is not an update of the other.

You can have both installed on your Mac and run either or both or switch back and forth and use whichever one your prefer.

You wouldn't lose any data but your bookmarks wouldn't be in Chrome unless you transfer them.

You can do that via Safari > File menu > Export > Bookmarks.

Then Chrome > Chrome menu > Import Bookmarks and Settings.
