"Syncing Paused" in iMessages
Since i updated my iphone 15 pro max to 17.2, I have a message that says "syncing paused" at the bottom of my imessage screen. Forcing it to sync doesn't fix it. I see others are having the same issue.

All, understand the frustration. As before, mine was not simply fixed by installing 17.3. My recommendation is to install 17.3, then do the following on a device by device basis, but wait until it finishes on one before starting another. Example:
1.) install 17.3 on iPhone
2.) reboot iPhone after install
3.) Settings > iCloud > Show All Apps > Messages in Cloud > Sync Now
4.) Let it finish. It’s going to take awhile.
Then do the same with other devices having the issue. One by one. Let the sync finish before starting the next one.
Spent two days with Apple Support on this issue only to get told I needed to call my carrier. Following the steps listed here fixed most of the sync issues I was having with threads not showing up between devices, including that Syncing Paused message that popped up while I was on the phone with support. I did notice one message thread that wouldn't sync, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one whose been having this issue. I felt crazy! Hopefully Apple will fix this soon.
Yes i followed the instructions that JamesFrench1 said he did that worked for him. And it worked for me too. If you look towards the top of the thread you'll see his name and his directions. Good luck!
This is something that is buried in the system, and only affecting a few. I wouldn’t follow the advice of anyone from Apple other than a level 2 or level 3 engineer, and they are not offering any solutions other than wait for a fix.

Still having this issue for iPhone 15 Pro Max
Software updated, hard reboot, tried Sync Now, still intermittently going between Sync and Pause
I have a new MBP and am trying to sync both from iCloud, seems neither are working as expected. Only new messages appear, but all old messages are not Syncing.
Soooo anyone know if this will be fixed any time soon? My 13 mini is updated to version 17.3.1 and I have tried all the tricks listed, yet my messages continue to say “not synced” or “syncing paused”..?
I have an desktop mac, iPhone, iPad and laptop mac. The later 3 work perfectly to delete iMessages on one device for them all. I can't get my mac desktop to do this. All devices are up to date on software. I have enabled 2 factor authorization and iMessages on my desktop mac and followed all instructions in the forum. When I get to settings under iMessage, there is no "enable Messages in icloud" to click. If I go to system settings and navigate to Messages in icloud, the Status is Syncing paused. Clicking on Sync Now does nothing. Any suggestions?
Now the same thing is happening to me after I recently bought an iPad Pro. iMessages don’t show up on it.
Apple Support is useless, either blaming me for not doing enough troubleshooting or “a carrier issue”.
Cringe and undignified from a trillion dollar company.
Very annoying. I tried everything as well. Hopefully, Apple will issue a fix soon.
On other family iphone linked to other icloud sync works fine... Hm... My not.
tried this on my iPhone (thanks for the hint) but when I hit Sync Now, the status blips from Syncing with iCloud to Syncing paused almost immediately. 🫤
Same here. I have tried hitting “sync now” many times and it says syncing only to switch back to syncing paused within a few seconds.
This would be terrific news if true.
“Emerging issue” awesome.
At least they know it exists so they can get it fixed.
Now, mine says, “Syncing with iCloud.
Now, mine says, “Syncing with iCloud after doing what James French1 did.
