Image Capture App stopped working with Printer

Hello, I just spent the last three hours messing around with my HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 Printer connected to my MacBook Pro through my network. The Image Capture App on my MacBook Pro is no longer connecting to my printer since I installed the latest macOS Sonoma 14.1.2 update. This has been a vital tool for my scanning operations and now I'm stymied. Please help me if you have some ideas on settings that may be blocking this connection. I have downloaded drivers for the printer, and my issue is still unresolved.

The latest version of Sonoma is 14.2, not 14.1.2. Does anything else work with your printer besides Image Capture.

Since your Office Jet Pro 6968 is not listed as supported by Apple's built-in AirPrint, that means you are still dependent on HP to provide drivers for the printer. To do that, download the Oct 31, 2023 HP Easy Start app which is under drivers, and which will help you get the current printer drivers for macOS 14.2. There is also a critical firmware update for your device and the Easy Start app may help with that too.
