Change default weather map in weather App

It’s pretty annoying. I hope Apple fixes it quickly.

I need to get the wind map off of my weather app. I want precipitation the above did not work.

This is still happening in 17.2.1.

Reproduction steps:

Open weather app

Open radar

Switch to Precipitation layer

Click Done

Expected result: weather app shows the current precipitation radar on the app homepage

Actual result: the radar layer has changed to Wind

We are in the middle of a winter storm and I need real time reliable access to radar data. The apple weather app is currently unreliable and therefore untrustworthy. This is a feature that needs to work for the safety of users.

I thought it was just me..I'm seeing this on two iphones and an ipad.

Once again Apple thinking they know better than the user. Why change the default away from precipitation like it has always been. If you want to give an option to change the default that’s great, but most people use the precipitation map more.

It's not even working temporarily for me! I expend the map, change the to Precipitation, tap "Done" to dismiss the map and it immediately changes back to Wind. Tried this ~10 times, still doesn't persist even temporarily.

Agreed, the application should work as intended, but apparently that is not the case.

You can send direct feedback to the Weather app product team, as these are only user-supported public communities where the product teams neither read, nor participate.

As Apple notes, "The type of weather map shown can change depending on the weather conditions for the selected location." Thus there IS NO WAY to set a default. You can view a different map by tapping the map (bringing up the large version), choosing the layers symbol, and choosing the layer you want - but when you close the large view, it will return to the map Apple decides is best for the current weather conditions of the location you selected.

Thanks for the reply. I'm aware how to change map layers but this only works temporarily. The map will switch back to wind after a few minutes or hours. It also shouldn't take multiple attempts to 'remember' the user's default map

They need to tweak that algorithm then! There's no way wind is more interesting than the rain and snow storms coming my way.

So I take it there’s no way to specify a default map?

Still a problem in the latest version(17.3.1) in March. Anyone found a solution or heard anything?

My MacOS Weather Version 4.2.1 (524) is still defaulting to the wind map. This is crazy.

At the top left of your Wind map representation, tap the word "Wind" and that expands the weather map to full screen. On the upper right, you will see the layers symbol and click that to select Precipitation, and then click Done.

In practice, wind is sticky and it may require multiple executions of the first paragraph to change it to precipitation. Mine finally changed.

Tested: iOS 17.2.1

Once I set mine to Precipitation from Wind around 9am this morning, it is now 12:31 pm and the map is still showing Precipitation as snow flakes with the impending winter storm.
