Opening weather app, and scroll through data, the default map has changed to “wind.” I want the default to be “precipitation.” I can’t seem to find a way to change it, and “wind” is a really odd default map.
iPhone 11 Pro, iOS 17
This is still happening in 17.2.1.
Reproduction steps:
Open weather app
Open radar
Switch to Precipitation layer
Click Done
Expected result: weather app shows the current precipitation radar on the app homepage
Actual result: the radar layer has changed to Wind
We are in the middle of a winter storm and I need real time reliable access to radar data. The apple weather app is currently unreliable and therefore untrustworthy. This is a feature that needs to work for the safety of users.
Issue is back again in 17.4.1. This is annoying for something sooooo simple to permanently fix.
Not sure if you can change the default, but you can choose the map by clicking on the map's overlay symbol: View the weather map on Mac - Apple Support
Looks like they fixed it in version 17.2.1 that was released on December 19th. 🙌
Not that anyone has suggested. It seems to get fixed and now I’m just today seeing it again.
Apple, the Dark Sky app would never have done this.

Read the other posts in this thread. Apple application design, not you, remains in control of the weather app settings.
Another high visibility but low priority issue. Why can’t developers take a few minutes to fix these kinds of issues?
Same issue as everyone. I’m not buying the wind map shows up based upon location. Currently, my area wind speed is WSW 7mph. Certainly not gale force winds that I should be aware of.
